Volunteerism is huge at Jerabek, and we welcome all parents and community members to become more involved. Whether it is by chaperoning a fieldtrip, working in the classroom, or helping at Ranch Round Up, Jerabek couldn’t be the great place it is without the literally hundreds of volunteers who donate their time.
Volunteer Application
The district requires that anyone who volunteers with students or on school grounds must submit a new application each year. The new Volunteer Application for the district is available here. Please fill in the
application and return it to the front office as soon as possible, before volunteering.
Please note on the application that "Jennifer Toledo" is the District Sponsor.
TB Testing
All volunteers must be screened with a TB test (two parts, consisting of the test followed by a reading 48-72 hours later). Negative test results for returning volunteers are valid for four years. New volunteers must have a TB test within 60 days of submitting their volunteer application. TB test results from military personnel can be accepted for one year after the test date. Submit your “blue” TB test card to the front office for verification.
Before attending a District-sponsored TB clinic, you must submit your Volunteer Application and pick up your “pink” volunteer card from Jennifer Toledo in the front office. This is your ticket into the clinic. Free, local TB testing in the fall is offered for volunteers at the former EBS site on Spring Canyon Rd (see .pdf). Additional free testing is done at the District Ed Center year-round.
If you obtain a valid TB test from a non-District location, the test must include the following information to be valid: date given, date read, millimeter reading, clinic/doctor location, and provider’s siginature/stamp. The County Public Health office in Kearny Mesa (5505 Ruffin Rd) offers TB tests for $8 on a walk-in basis. Contact them at 858-573-7300 for details.
If you have questions about your application or TB test status, please contact Jennifer Toledo in the Jerabek office.
Looking for a volunteer opportunity?
Are you looking for ways to become more involved in your child’s education or in the school community? Do you want to do something but don’t know what volunteer opportunity would match your interests and availability. Do you want to get involved but are afraid of taking on more than you can handle? Don’t worry!
There is a volunteer opportunity for everyone. If you work traditional hours, there are night events such as Family Math and Science Nights, Dr. Seuss’ Birthday/Read Across America Night, the Mother-Son Event, and the Father-Daughter Dance that could use a helping hand for as little as a few hours for one night of the year. If you have one late afternoon or evening free, we could use you for a two-hour shift at our students’ favorite, the Ranch Round Up carnival. We literally need over 100 volunteers to host this popular event! New this year, we have a “Dad’s Club” so that fathers can be more involved in the school community.
Whatever your time and interests, we can find a volunteer opportunity for you. Contact Julie Billitti, FFO Volunteer Coordinator/Recruiter for ideas and more information.
Thank you for your commitment to the students at Jerabek; we appreciate you! We look forward to seeing you at school.
